MakeMyTrip.com introduces Virtual Hotel Tours tool

MakeMyTrip.com has introduced Virtual Hotel Tours, a category-leading innovation, for hotel buyers on the website. This tool has been developed to assist travellers in making their hotel selections online, in response to user feedback. The virtual tour is a streaming video of all touch-points of the hotel for visitors – reception, coffee shop, rooms, washrooms and hotel surroundings. This innovative tool will enable users to make an informed decision while booking their hotels online and avoid any surprises later. It will also help mobilise a significant section of the traffic on the website to make their hotel purchase decision online. The service is currently available for 85 hotels in India. These cover a total of 30 cities. MakeMyTrip plans to expand this portfolio to offer over 500 virtual tours by the end of this year.

Elaborating on this offering, Rajnish Kapoor, Chief Innovation Officer, MakeMyTrip.com said, “At MakeMyTrip we take pride in continuously enhancing the user experience with the website by innovating with the interface, delivery medium and payment options. Virtual Tours is a first-in-industry offering by MakeMyTrip and we expect it to significantly increase traction on the website. In a real-world situation, people like the look, touch and feel of products. We are trying to provide this experience to users, as far as possible. The hotels category has been performing well for us over the last few years and this development will catalyse the online shift of hotels further.”

Adding more onto the business impact of this innovation, Kapoor said “Being the only website to offer this feature in India, this will drive value for our hotel partners to engage with us. They will also receive greater exposure if they activate this feature. Customers receive a sense of comfort while the business stakeholders see greater savings with transactions moving online. This is a win-win situation for all parties.”
